Keynote Title: Accelerating your education research career in an AI world |
Abstract: In this interactive keynote Matt explores how advances in Artificial Intelligence are impacting on the educational research field. A range of generative AI tools are showcased to prompt rethinking of the purpose and praxis of education. Emerging research relating to generative AI use will be presented and interpreted with respect to implications for learning and teaching. The evolving research agenda relating to AI in Education will be discussed. Ways in which AI is poised to transform educational research are unpacked. |
Dr Michelle Bishop – Macquarie University Michelle Bishop is a Gamilaroi woman who was grown up on Dharawal Country and now lives on Awabakal Country. Michelle’s research encompasses Indigenous education sovereignty, Indigenous research methodologies, teacher ontology in teacher education and embedding Indigenous perspectives in teaching and learning. Her PhD research focused on envisioning an educational future outside of colonial-controlled schooling, centred in Indigenous axiologies, ontologies and epistemologies. Michelle is a Lecturer in Education at Macquarie University. |
Presentation Title: Reclaiming research |
Abstract: ‘Research’ has earned itself a bad reputation amongst many Indigenous communities as exploitative and extractive. Researchers write about us, without us; thus, we become the subjects and objects of research. This is unacceptable. As more and more Indigenous peoples enter the academy and reclaim research on our own terms, we are setting our own research narratives. This presentation will share with you my research narrative in education and the ways dominant research practices have been disrupted and refused to prioritise decolonising and relational research. |
Registration to present a Lightning Talk at the Preconference is now open!
We invite postgraduates and early career researchers registered for the AARE Preconference (Sunday 1 December) to put their names down to present a 2–3-minute Lightning Talk about their research. This is an oral presentation without slides and is an amazing opportunity to share your research (at whatever stage you are at in your project), get feedback from your peers or ideas about something you are pondering on, and practice speaking about your work. It is a lot of fun and very supportive! You don’t have to be presenting at the Conference, but if you are, it is a chance to warm up before your Conference presentation during the week.
We only have 30 presentation spots available, so don’t miss out! Please make sure you have registered for the Preconference before completing the registration form.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact Sarah and Ben.
